Description

This introductory group is for men who have experienced sexual abuse of some kind in their childhood, and who have had no previous individual or group therapy dealing with the abuse. Information about what sexual abuse is and how it can affect the victim will be shared and discussed. Each participant will have an opportunity to share their own story in a safe environment during the twelve week period. The focus of this group is safety and respect for the individual and their healing experience. The group welcomes those of any race, creed, religion or sexual orientation. Facilitated by a licensed professional with ten years of experience running male survivor groups.

Survivors may have experienced some of the following symptoms:

  • Chronic Depression
  • Anxiety or Panic Attacks
  • Alcohol or other chemical addictions
  • Difficulty in establishing intimate relationships
  • Inability to trust others
  • Confusion in areas relating to sexuality
  • Persistent conflict with authority figures
  • Unmanageable anger

This group offers:

  • Weekly 2-hour Sessions
  • Small 5-member group
  • Ongoing, closed format
  • Respect for personal boundaries
  • Encouragement to explore the cognitive and affective aspects of the abuse
  • Opportunity to share confidentially in a small group setting with other survivors
  • Training in assertiveness, anger management, and effective coping strategies

Basic Requirements

  • Commitment to regular attendance and participation
  • "Clean and sober" attendance
    (agreement not to show up drunk or high)
  • Ability to interact in a group setting
  • Completion of a brief, free screening session
  • Payment of a moderate monthly fee
